Substance Abuse & Addiction Therapy:
Addressing the Root Causes of Lasting Recovery
Substance use is often more than a behavioral problem. It can be a way of coping with emotional pain, unresolved trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or difficult life experiences that never got processed. Lasting recovery begins with understanding why the substance became necessary in the first place, not simply stopping its use. I help each client uncover and address the underlying emotional, psychological, and relational factors that contribute to addictive behaviors.
My approach is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and tailored to each client's circumstances. Whether a client is struggling with alcohol dependence, marijuana use, prescription medication misuse, nicotine or vaping addiction, or another substance-related concern, therapy provides a safe space to explore the thoughts, emotions, and experiences driving these behaviors. Together, we develop healthier coping strategies, strengthen emotional resilience, improve self-awareness, and build practical skills for managing stress without relying on substances.
I take a holistic, trauma-informed approach that considers family dynamics, childhood experiences, attachment patterns, and co-occurring concerns such as anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Identifying unhealthy patterns and addressing the emotional wounds beneath them allows clients to break free of destructive cycles, build healthier relationships, and develop a stronger sense of purpose.
Treatment draws on psychodynamic therapy, motivational interviewing, CBT, solution-focused therapy, somatic interventions, mindfulness, and experiential techniques, allowing treatment to be personalized to each individual's needs and stage of recovery. The goal isn't just managing symptoms. It's helping clients understand themselves more clearly, regulate their emotions, and make choices that support lasting wellness.
